Introduction: My Chiari Story
Hi, I’m Lara.
I’m a 41-year-old female who was diagnosed with Chiari malformation type 1 (19.7mm) on March 4, 2025. Just over two months later, on May 12th, I underwent decompression surgery, which included a craniectomy, duraplasty, laminectomy, and cauterization of the cerebellar tonsils.
I created this blog to support others who are navigating this complex diagnosis—whether you’re newly diagnosed, exploring treatment options, or preparing for surgery. Here, I share my personal journey, what helped me, what surprised me, and what I wish I’d known.
Please note: I’m not a medical professional, and nothing shared here is intended as medical advice. Everything comes from my own experience, research, and conversations with others who’ve walked this path.
If you have questions or want to connect, feel free to email me at larapay at gmail You’re not alone in this.
