Post-op Instructions

Post Op Items: I was given strict post-op instructions not to wash my hair for 7–10 days after my stitches were removed. I also had to sleep at a 45-degree angle for the first two weeks following surgery. While these may seem like small details, I believe they played a key role in promoting proper healing and minimizing the risk of a CSF leak.

What will I need at home after the surgery?

  1. Lots of pillows (squishmillows) links to the one I used here

  2. Microwave/prepared meals and simple snacks

  3. Ice packs

  4. A cart to keep all of your meds and drinks and supplies

  5. Postmates money

  6. Chiari notebook to track symptoms

  7. Informative book on Chiari (highly recommend)

  8. Wedge pillow to stay at 45 degrees

  9. Electrolytes (beware of Gatorade, Powerade, and Liquid IV) They all have way too much sugar in them which can cause more harm than good.

    1. My favorite electrolytes are:

      1. LMNT on Amazon

      2. ATH on website

  10. Bonine in case you get dizzy

  11. Lots of water every day (70 oz)
