Post-op Instructions
Post Op Items: I was given strict post-op instructions not to wash my hair for 7–10 days after my stitches were removed. I also had to sleep at a 45-degree angle for the first two weeks following surgery. While these may seem like small details, I believe they played a key role in promoting proper healing and minimizing the risk of a CSF leak.
What will I need at home after the surgery?
Lots of pillows (squishmillows) links to the one I used here
Microwave/prepared meals and simple snacks
Ice packs
A cart to keep all of your meds and drinks and supplies
Postmates money
Chiari notebook to track symptoms
Informative book on Chiari (highly recommend)
Wedge pillow to stay at 45 degrees
Electrolytes (beware of Gatorade, Powerade, and Liquid IV) They all have way too much sugar in them which can cause more harm than good.
Bonine in case you get dizzy
Lots of water every day (70 oz)
Diet:
Fiber is KEY. Broccoli and Miralax right after surgery
Prioritize protein (chicken, salmon, beef)
Protein smoothie recipe:
Frozen strawberries
Almond milk (1 cup)
1 scoop of protein powder
1 cup of greek yogurt
Maybe ½ banana
Peanut butter
Peanut butter toast
Apple sauce
Soups with chicken broth and lots of veggies
Chicken bone broth sipping
Nausea solutions:
Put on patch behind ear
Take prescribed meds given
Alcohol swabs to smell
Smell lemon
Nausea bands
Cold towel on neck
Deep breathes
Take a cold shower
Practice breathing and journal, write a poem
Sip on soda water (get ginger)
Plug in the diffuser with essential oils
